Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. -- Centre College defeated Berry College, 82-72, in a Southern Athletic Association game on Sunday. The Colonels improved to 17-3, 10-0 and BC dropped to 4-17, 1-9.
For the second straight game, Lee McCloud led Berry in scoring. He recorded 19 points and passed for a game-high five assists. The Vikings had three others score in double-figures in the contest: Owen Jacobs (18 points, 10 rebounds); Mac Whalen (17); and Hunter Smoak (12).
After snapping a 15-game losing streak by winning at Sewanee on Friday, the Vikings sought to upset the conference-leading Colonels.
"I was really pleased with our effort tonight and for the entire road trip," said Berry Head Coach Jeff Rogers. "We've gauged our team by our performance, not just the win-loss column. Centre's clearly the best team in our conference and we had marked improvement from our last meeting. As we continue to improve, we expect to be playing our best basketball at the end of the season."
Berry held an early lead, but Centre took over and ed by as many as nine points in the first half. At halftime, CC led 46-40.
It was the same story in the second period. The Colonels would pull away, and the Vikings would fight back. CC led by as many as 12 points in the final moments. Berry, however, cut the margin to three points on three occasions.
Centre had a strong shooting night in making 25-53 field goals (53-percent). BC countered with a solid 48-percent shooting (30-63). The Vikes led in rebounds, 31-30.
The home team had five players score in double-digits, led by Collin Lopez's 21 points.
