Seniors lead Vikings to 78-70 win

ROME, Ga. -- Mac Whalen and Hunter Smoak scored 21 and 20 points respectively on their Senior Day as Berry College defeated Hendrix, 78-70, on Sunday afternoon.

Berry--which matched last year's win total--improved to 5-18 and 2-10 in the Southern Athletic Association. Hendrix fell to 10-13, 4-8.

Whalen was 8-17 shooting and made all four of his free throws. Smoak shot 6-13 and converted three- 3-pointers for the Vikings. Along with Lake Graham (six points, four rebounds), the trio was recognized before the game for Senior Day.

A total of four players scored in double figures for the home team. Sophomores Lee McCloud and Owen Jacobs tallied 16 and 15 points respectively for BC. Jacobs snatched 16 rebounds and recorded his 14th double-double of the season.

Berry committed 11 turnovers and forced 22 HC miscues. The Vikings shot 47-percent (26-58) while the Warriors were 25-53 (45-percent) from the field. Hendrix led in rebounds, 37-33. 

BC got off to a strong start and led 28-13 with 5:28 remaining in the first half. HC, however, closed the period with a run of 17-4 and trailed 32-30 at halftime.

The Warriors took the lead at 48-47 after Gearen Littlefield made two free throws with 11:56 left. The game see-sawed before the home team reclaimed the lead for good at 58-57 after Jacobs made a layup with 6:50 remaining.

Drew Nikolovski had a team-high 18 points before fouling out. Hendrix also had four players record double figures.

Berry plays at Millsaps College on Friday night.
