ROME, Ga—Berry College knocked off conference-leading Centre, 77-70, on Sunday. Megan Walsh scored a career-high 24 points and Chanlir Segarra reached 1,000 career points in the victory.
BC improved to 10-7 and 3-3 in Southern Athletic Association. Centre dropped to (11-6,5-1).
Segarra had 18 points, was 7-13 from the field, had six rebounds and nine assists.
"It's an amazing feeling, but I couldn't have done it without my teammates getting me open shots and setting screens," Segarra said. "This was a huge game for us; we came in really wanting to get this win."
Centre led at halftime, 37-35. With 16:32 left in the second half, Walsh made a layup to put BC ahead 44-42. The Vikings never trailed again.
"We know basketball is a game of runs and we did a great job of coming out and staying focused—we felt confident today," said Head Coach Stephanie Dunn.
Defense played a huge part in this game for the Vikings as they totaled five blocks, all coming from Walsh. "We had a talk after her last game, and she was really determined to give our team what we needed today," Dunn said.
Walsh had a game-best with 24 points, five blocks and three steals. She was 9-12 shooting and grabbed a team-high edith rebounds. Mel McLean added 19 points (four 3-pointers) and Emma Cook contributed 10 for the victorious Vikes.
The Vikings held Centre to just under 31-percent in the second half and just over 36-percent for the entire game.
Paieg Beachle scored 22 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds for Centre. The Colonels led in rebounds, 48-32.
Berry hosts another conference opponent, Birmingham-Southern, on Friday night.
