ROME, Ga. – Berry College fell to visiting Sewanee, 77-65, on Friday night at the Cage Center.
The Vikings made a valiant comeback in the second half reducing an 18-point deficit (Sewanee led 43-25 at halftime) to a one-point game with five minutes left in the contest.
Two players scored in double digits for the home team. Owen Jacobs had 16 points and Mac Whalen finished 10 points for BC.
The Vikings offense got off to a slow start but managed to boost their field goal percentage up by five percent to 41% in the second half.
With six minutes left in the game A.J. Lewis hit a three pointer. Less than a minute later, Daniels made two layups. Lewis and Daniels cut Sewanee's lead down from 61-53 to 61-60. Sewanee managed to maintain the lead for the rest of the game.
"Obviously we wanted to pull out the win." said Berry Head Coach Jeff Rogers. "That's what people measure performances by, but I'm proud of the fight our guys showed and they are really starting to buy into our system."
For the game, the Vikings shot 39-percent to Sewanee's 53-percent from the field. The Vikings forced 15 turnovers and only coughed up seven for the game.
Jorden Williams had a best 21 points to lead the Tigers, which had four players score in double figures.
Sewanee improved to 10-5 and 3-2 in the SAA. Berry fell to 3-13 and 0-5.
BC hosts Centre on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is 3 p.m. at the Cage Center.
