Turnovers Costly as Men Lose at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Despite having three players in double figures, Berry's men's basketball team dropped a Southern Athletic Association matchup with Birmingham-Southern, 88-62, on Friday evening.

The loss pushed Berry's overall record to 4-13 and 1-6 in SAA competition. Birmingham-Southern improved to 13-4 and 6-1.

Berry's Mac Whalen paced the team with 13 points while Lake Graham and Jonathan Abrams had 11 and 10 respectively. 

"We competed well against a very good team," said Berry Head Coach Jeff Haarlow. "But turnovers killed us. You just can't win on the road when you make that many errors."

BSC forced a season-high 32 Viking miscues.

After briefly holding a two-point lead, Berry found itself down by 10 points with 8:08 remaining in the first half.  The team would go to the locker room down by 13 points at halftime.

The Vikes made 55-percent of its shots in the second half. Berry allowed Birmingham-Southern to convert 51.4 percent of its field goals in that period

Birmingham-Southern's Larry Thomas had 14 points and was joined in double figures by Ross Welch (13 points), Kevin Kegarise (12 points) and Zac Richards (12 points).

Berry will return to action on Sunday afternoon at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
