Box Score Lady Vikings Unable to Finish Comeback After Making Late Run
Mel McLean led Berry with 13 points, but host COlorado College knocked off the Lady Vikings 70-65 in a women's basketball game in Colorado Springs, Colo., Monday evening.
Berry used a 14-4 run late in the second half to turn pull to within 61-60 after trailing by 11 points less than three minutes earlier. The Tigers' Courtney Tyus and the Lady Vikes' Alexa Evans then traded 3-pointers to make the score 64-63 with four minutes remaining in the contest.
But Berry (4-8) would be held scoreless for the next 3:08, finally scoring on a Megan Walsh jumper. Still, the Lady Vikings trailed just 68-65 after that basket, and had a chance to pull off the upset. However, Colorado College's Marissa Gradoz converted a layup with 31 seconds to play that made the score 70-65, and Berry was unable to close the gap on the Tigers (7-5).
McLean was joined in double figures by Chanlir Segarra, who scored 12 points. Brooke Thomas added nine points and Walsh hauled down a team high 10 rebounds to go with four points.
Gradoz led four Tigers players in double figures with a game high 17 points. Becky Luetjen scored 16 points and grabbed a game high 14 boards, Jordy stephenson added 14 and and Sarah Gunkel chipped in 12.
The Lady Vikings are scheduled to return to action Saturday, when they host Young Harris at 2 p.m.
