Coughlan Leads Lady Vikings With 15 Points in 87-74 Loss at Centre

Brittany Coughlan led Berry's women's basketball team with 15 points, but Centre defeated the Lady Vikings 87-74 in Danville, Ky., Friday evening.

Berry opened the game with a 7-2 lead, but Centre answered with a 11-4 run to go ahead 13-11 six minutes into the game.  The teams would trade the lead twice over the following six minutes, but Maggie Prewitt would hit a pair of free throws with 7:58 remaining in the first half that put Centre ahead 23-22, and the Colonels would hold an advantage the rest of the night.

Still, Berry (1-1) wouldn't go away, trailing by just four points, 44-40, at halftime.  The Lady Vikings twice cut the lead to two early in the second half.  But, clinging to a 46-44 lead with 17:23 left in the game, Centre embarked on an 11-2 run over the next 3:20 and held a double digit lead the rest of the way.

Centre held a hot shooting hand, hitting over 50 percent of its shots for most of the night, eventually finishing at 48.4 percent (30-for-62).  Berry shot 37.1 percent (23-for-62).

The two squads combined to hit 41-of-46 free throw attempts.  Centre was 20-for-22 (90.9 percent) and Berry was 21-for-24 (87.5 percent).

Coughlan was one of two Lady Vikings to score in double figures Friday.  Danielle Sisk scored 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 shooting from the free throw line.

Alexa Evans grabbed five rebounds to lead Berry in that category.

Prewitt scored a game high 21 points for Centre.  She led four Colonels in double figures.  Bridget Winstead scored 16 points, Chelsea Benham added 12 and Paige Baechle chipped in 10.

Berry returns to action Saturday against Marian in the Lady Vikes' final game at the Country Hearth Inn/Famous Recipe Classic.
