Berry's Tim Miles scored a game high 23 points, but the Vikings fell 69-66 to Oglethorpe Saturday evening in Atlanta.
Oglethorpe twice led by as many as 12 points in the first half and took a 40-30 lead into the intermission. But Berry opened the second half with a 25-10 spurt, taking a 55-50 lead when Miles drained a 3-pointer with 7:41 remaining in the contest.
Oglethorpe answered with an 11-2 run over the next six minutes to regain the advantage for good. Still, Berry kept the game within five points the rest of the way, and pulled to within one point at 67-66 on another 3-point basket by Miles with just 17 seconds left to play.
Forced to foul, Berry put the Stormy Petrels on the free throw line, where Todd Ward hit one shot to give OU a 68-66 lead. The Vikings' Stefan Woods tried from 3-point range with five seconds remaining, but was unsuccessful and Oglethorpe's Andrew Steioff grabbed the rebound and hit a free throw with a second left after he was fouled. Steioff missed his second free throw, but Berry was unable to get off another shot.
"I thought in the second half we competed and played pretty well," Berry head coach Jeff Haarlow said. "They shot the ball so well in the first 10 minutes of first half, and we got in a hole that we couldn't get out of. But I was really proud of the way we played in the second half.
"David Holloman had a really good second half."
Miles led Berry (4-2) with six rebounds. He was joined in double figures in the scoring column by Holloman, who finished with 14 points and four boards. Mac Whalen added eight points off the bench.
Alex Richey led four Oglethorpe players in double figures with 19 points. Alec Pitts added 18, Kennedy scored 13 and Ward chipped in 10 for the Stormy Petrels (5-3).
Berry returns to action Tuesday, when it hosts Huntingdon at 7 p.m., at Berry's Cage Center.
