Vikings Roll Over Hawks 69-45

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings women's basketball team showed to be on their offensive A-game as they were paced by 15 points from Briaiah Lewis, 12 from Elly Callihan, and 12 apiece from Ava Travis and Jeryn Jarrett on their way to a  69-45 victory. 

The Vikings started the quarter off offensively with an impressive three-pointer from Jeryn Jarrett, after both teams were scoreless in the first 2 minutes of the game. Another basket from Briaiah Lewis made the score 5-0. On the next Viking possession,  another three- pointer was converted, making the Viking lead 8-0, courtesy of another Jarrett bomb from beyond the arc. 

With 2:35 left in the first quarter,  Ava Travis made an instant impact off the bench, scoring inside through contact and converting an and-one to push the Viking lead to 19-3. The end of the quarter neared with Huntingdon getting in a couple more shots in which at the end brought them up to 9 points. The Vikings continued to be dominant offensively as well, which left them with 21 points as the first quarter came to an end, 21-9. 

Huntingdon started off the second quarter strong in response, knocking in a three-point shot which brought them to 11 points on the scoreboard. The Vikings put on their offense and charged forward to score a two-pointer shot then followed with a three-pointer which brought them up on the scoreboard 26-11.  

Avery Payne got on the board, as she weaved her way to the basket for a layup  with 7:48 left in the half, keeping the Vikings' momentum up. A few moments later, the Vikings scored added three-pointer off the right hand of Jade Lewis, which created a huge lead between them and Huntingdon, 33-14. With 5:35 left, Berry continued to pour it on, as they held a commanding 43-20 lead at the halftime break.  

Berry's offensive dominance continued in the second half, as they outscored the Hawks 15-13 in the third quarter to sustain a 58-33 lead with the final frame in order. 

Briaiah Lewis scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to push the Viking lead to an insurmountable 29 points. With the game in hand, the Vikings utilized a few timely buckets from Kaylana Curry and solid defense to close out a resounding 69-45 victory over Huntingdon. 

The Vikings return to the Cage Center on December 15 at 6 PM to face Agnes Scott.
