Vikings Dominate Scotties with Record Setting Performance

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College women's basketball team (6-4) had a record setting evening as they dominated the Agnes Scott College Scotties 107-33 on Monday evening at home in the Cage Center.

The Vikings came storming out of the gates on a 14-0 run led by two points from Elly Callihan and 10 straight from Callie Jackson to take a big lead with 4:16 remaining in the first. The Scotties finally got their first bucket but it was all Vikings as they closed out the quarter on a 9-1 run with four points from Lauren Ellard to take a 23-3 lead at the break. The Vikings continued their offensive onslaught to open the second as they opened the second quarter on an 18-0 run finished off by a three point play by Isabella Ramirez. The Scotties would then make it 43-9 but the Vikings kept pushing as they closed the half on a 14-0 run with Jade Lewis, Addison Ghorley and Avery Huffman all hitting from beyond the arc as the Vikings took a huge 57-9 lead at halftime.

The Vikings kept up their momentum to start the third with a 6-0 run with four more points from Ellard to take a 63-9 lead with 8:04 to go. Briaiah Lewis then pushed the Vikings lead to 75-16 midway through the quarter but the Scotties finally found some scoring as they cut the Vikings lead to 81-27. The Vikings though had the final bucket of the quarter as Ava Travis dished off to Avery Huffman to put them up 83-27 at the end of the third. The Vikings continued to dominate in the fourth as they opened on a 13-2 run led by six points from Jade Lewis to push their lead to 96-29 with 4:33 to go. The Vikings would then hit the 100 point mark with two free throws from Ghorley and would finish strong with two free throws from Avery Payne giving the Viking 107 points in a 107-33 win.

It was a record setting night for the Vikings as they set a new program record for points in a game (107) and field goals made (42). Callihan also set a new career record in rebounds with 586 as she finished the game with eight. Lewis led the way with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting off the bench.

The Vikings will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Nashville, TN for the Music City Classic where they will take on Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, December 19 at 6:00 PM.
