Vikings Thump Warren Wilson in Home Opener

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings dominated the Warren Wilson Owls, blowing them out 69-33. Berry had a well-rounded effort, ending the day with four double-digit scorers in Elly Callihan, Jade Lewis, Alana Azeta, and Ava Travis, all recording ten points. The Vikings' defense also came to play, holding the Owls to just 23% from the field.

The Vikings won the tip to get the game started. The Vikings had a successful first look as Briaiah Lewis put them on the board following a reverse layup. Berry immediately set the tone for the game, getting active on the offensive glass before Elly Callihan cashed in Berry's second bucket for the game.

The Owls came back and hit a three on the other end to get themselves going, but they couldn't create anything else for themselves as Berry's defense completely stifled any offense they had. Because of this effort, the Vikings built a double-digit lead with about a minute to go. The Vikings couldn't extend their lead going into the second quarter, but still had a sizeable lead, the score 13-3.

The Owls looked to put a lackluster first quarter behind them as they kicked off the second quarter. Their offense started showing signs of life, cutting the deficit to a more manageable six points. When it looked like the Owls might've had momentum on their side, Ava Travis stopped the slide, scoring the first points for Berry and bringing the lead back to eight.

The Vikings kept rolling and got the lead back to double-digits on free throws from Alana Azeta. Kaylana Curry and Isabelle Ramirez helping pad the lead, cashing in from in close. Jade Lewis made a three to extend the lead to a game-high 15 points with a minute left in the second quarter. The Owls beat the buzzer going into the half, bringing the deficit back down to 11, but Berry remained firmly in the driver's seat, the score 26-15 entering the halftime break.

The Vikings got the ball first to start the second half. Elly Callihan kept things rolling for the Vikings from the line. Berry continued dominating as Briaiah Lewis pushed the lead to a new high of 17. The Owls finally found their wings, their first bucket coming with six minutes left in the quarter, but Berry kept them grounded and ran the check up, pushing the lead to a new high of 30 as the quarter came to a close, the score 47-17.

The Vikings didn't lose a step throughout the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to a deflating 36 points as the clock wound down, the final score 69-33.

The Vikings look to replicate this performance as they head down to Atlanta to take on their first conference opponent, the Oglethorpe University Storming Petrels, on Wednesday, December 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
