Vikings Put Out the Storm - Defeat Brevard

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings took on the Brevard Tornadoes tonight in the Cage Center to produce another win and start the season 5-1 overall.

The 73-58 victory was a tough battle and a well-earned one at that. Two players had double-doubles on the night, Kenadie Lee with 19 points and 11 rebounds and the double-double leader Elly Callihan with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The fresh face, Briaiah Lewis posted a new career-high this evening with 14-points proving to be unstoppable inside against the Brevard big.

For the Tornadoes, the storm started early as they were making things shake in the Cage with 10 first half three's, shooting 55% from behind the arc.

Their second quarter 29-points put the Vikings in a hole at 40-28 after 20 minutes of play.

After the half, the Vikings put on their defensive shoes and got to work, the hot Brevard team was now feeling the effects of Winter, going cold and giving Berry key rebounds to push the ball and score to fight back.

Chipping away at the opponents lead, the Vikings finally took the lead at 53-52 with ten seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Berry started building after gaining the lead, creating a gap as large as 17-points with 20 seconds left in the game. The huge turnaround was due to key defensive plays to cool off the Tornadoes.

As a team, Berry held Brevard to only six fourth quarter points. The Vikings hit their first triple with three minutes to go in the game as the curse was finally broken by Jeryn Jarrett.

With shots not falling, the Vikings stayed true and found what was working in the second half, points in the paint! Berry outscored the Tornadoes by 40 in the paint (50-10), 30 of which came in the second half.

The Vikings take a break for the Holiday and return back to the court Monday December 2 at Warren Wilson.
