BIRMINGHAM – The Berry College women closed out the final day of the SAA Championships in fine fashion, finishing fourth in the overall team standings after the two day meet. The 75 points scored by the women were close behind third place Centre.
"The women had a great meet and I'm very proud of how we represented our program," said Berry Head Coach Luke Syverson. "We came into the day tied for second place, but we knew we were going to be lighter in points today as our strength is in the distance and field events. Yet we did a good job fighting for every point today."
Junior Danielle Ferro started things off with a third place finish in the 5000m with a new PR of 18:32.50. The 4x100 relay team of Camille Bryan, Regan Pifer, Lauren Merical, and Amy Ethridge then took fifth with a new school record of 51.28.
Rachel Dorris picked up a seventh place finish in the 1500m and Molly Horton picked up a seventh place finish in the 400 Hurdles. Alainna Chretien was seventh in the 5000m, and later took fourth in the 800 with a 2:25.00
"This was a great way to end the formal part of our first season as a full program," Syverson said. "Our goal was to finish in the top five and we took fourth. I think we turned a lot of heads, and were able to make the statement we were looking for."
A select few team members who are trying to improve on national marks and PRs will travel to the Dr. Keeler Invite at North Central College in Illinois May 12-13th.
