ATLANTA, Ga. – The Berry women's track team continued their outdoor season with a two-day meet at the Emory Invitational. Berry competed against the SAA conference teams Oglethorpe and Birmingham-Southern, and 23 other teams.

On Friday the Berry women competed in the 4x800m relay and the 3km steeplechase. On Saturday they were back at it racing in the 5km, 1500m, and 4x400m relay.

The Vikings started off the meet with the 4x800m relay. Freshman Nina Thomason, senior Nicole Fredette, junior Rachel Dorris, and senior Leslie Stewart all ran strong legs for a finishing time of 10:36.67 and an 11th overall finish.

To finish off the first day of the meet for Berry, sophomore Danielle Ferro ran a great 3K steeplechase moving up throughout the race to finish 4th overall with a time of 11:50.88--a 13 second PR for Ferro and a new Berry College record.

On Saturday, the Vikings started with the 5K. Seniors Hibah Abuhamdieh, Annika Stryker, and Kayla Heflin all ran great races and set huge outdoor track PRs. Abuhamadieh ran a 19:59.07, setting a 39 second PR and finished 6th overall. Stryker and Heflin were close together the entire race working together. Stryker finished in 10th place overall with a 20:38.24 and set a PR by 2:52. Heflin was 11th at 20:39.28, which was a PR by 1:19.

Fredette, Stewart and freshman Alainna Chretien then competed in the 1500M. Fredette raced in a strong heat and led for the majority of the race. She finished in 5:08.57, a 3-second PR and placed 16th overall. Chretien clocked a 5:33.95 with an overall place of 46th. Stewart also raced well with a final time of 5:34.35 and a 47th place finish.

"It felt good racing my first 1500," Chretien said. "I went out a little too fast when I should have been a little more patient, but overall I'm happy with setting a PR."

The Berry women ended the day with the 4x400m relay. Thomason, Fredette, Chretien, and Ferro each ran a fast 400 to finish with a total time of 4:40.32 and a 26th overall finish.

The Vikings will race next at the Shorter Invitational in Rome, Ga. on March 28th.
