INDIANAPOLIS – Four Berry College swimmers will be heading to the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this week for the first time in program history.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Brooke Boyd, Sarah Pierce, Maggie Hogsed and Haley Brown will compete on Friday, March 23. The relay team boasts a 7:36.97 school record in the 800-yard relay that they look to break at the championships. Brown, a senior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., will also race in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday after posting a career-best 51.60 in the event this season. Boyd, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., will compete in the 1,650-yard freestyle that same day as well, swimming a 17:28.26 time earlier this season to qualify.
"Preparation has been right on track," head coach Paul Flinchbaugh said. "This is an outstanding opportunity for these ladies and they are really excited. As such an exceptional accomplishment for the program, I want them to enjoy their nationals experience and have fun swimming alongside the best swimmers in Division III."
All prelims are set for 10:00 a.m. on race day, with finals following at 6:00 p.m.
The championships will be held March 21-24 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corporation will serve as co-hosts. A total of 579 participants (526 swimmers and 53 divers) will compete in the championships.
