Berry's Lacey Sheppard Finishes 13th Overall as Vikings Wrap Up Tournament in Seventh Place
Berry's Lacey Sheppard shot 83 Friday to finish at 167 in the 36-hole Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Community in London, Ky., good enough for 13th place overall. The Vikings placed seventh in the team standings and cut 12 strokes off its first round score to finish at 367-355-722.
Sheppard, a junior who graduated from Rome's Darlington School, shot 84 over the tournament's first 18 holes Thursday, and finished just two strokes out of the top 10.
Chelsea Hoag, one of two Berry freshmen playing in their first collegiate tournament this week, shot 87-91-178 to finish in a tie for 28th place. Nikki Cline finished 32nd at 93-87-180; Lauren Buschhorn, another Berry freshman, shot 103-94-197 to finish 40th; and Morgan Johnston finished at 105-98-203, tying for 46th place.
After entering the final round with a slim three-stoke advantage, Cumberland College ended up winning the event by 10 strokes, at 313-311-624, beating out second-place Lee, which shot 316-318-634.
Cumberland also featured the individual medalist in Lara Beth Harris, who shot 75-77-152 to win by a pair of strokes.
Following Cumberland and Lee in the team standings were Campbellsville (355-332-687), Lindsey Wilson (350-339-689), Union College (359-353-712), Milligan (354-358-712) and Berry. Georgetown (373-359-732), St. Catharine (418-394-812) and Pikeville (425-418-843) rounded out the scores.
Berry is scheduled to return to action Sept. 18-19 at the Eat A Peach Collegiate.
