Lacey Sheppard fired a first-round 84 to lead Berry's women's golf team Thursday at the Bill Sergent Invitational at the Crooked Creek Golf Community in London, Ky. Sheppard is tied for 14th in the individual standings, while the Vikings are in seventh place out of 10 teams heading into Friday's final round after shooting 367 as a team.
Sheppard is nine strokes behind the leader, Laura Beth Harris of first place Cumberland College. Sheppard's teammate, Chelsea Hoag, is tied for 21st after shooting 87. Nikki Cline shot 93 and is tied for 30th, while Lauren Buschhorn is tied for 46th at 103 and Morgan Johnston is 49th at 105.
Cumberland shot a 313 team score owns a three-stroke lead over second-place Lee. Lindsey Wilson (350) is third, followed by Milligan (354), Campbellsville (355), Union (359) and Berry. Georgetown (Ky.) (373), St. Catharine (418) and Pikeville (425) round out the field.
The tournament concludes Friday.
