Softball Climbs to No. 9 in NFCA Coaches Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After opening the year 3-0, the Berry College softball team jumped inside the top-10 of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division III Top-25, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Vikings now sit at No. 9.

Weather has decimated the early part of Berry's schedule, resulting in cancellations to many of the team's previously scheduled contests. So far, Berry has earned a doubleheader sweep of Covenant College and claimed a 9-7 victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Emory on Sunday. Game two was halted due to darkness and will resume at a later date.

Following the contest at Emory, Bayleigh Masterson and Emily Schechter sweps the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. Masterson was 3-for-5 in the outing with a pair of RBI's, a home run and a run scored to help the Vikings rally from a 7-0 deficit. Schechter pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing just one run to help the Vikings rally.

The Vikings home opener is scheduled for Friday at 2:00 p.m. against DePauw.
