Softball Tops Fontbonne in 8-0 Run Rule Victory

ROME, Ga. — The No. 7 Berry College softball team defeated the Fontbonne University Griffins 8-0 on Thursday night, improving to 7-1 on the year. 

Berry's Makenzie Flynt earned the start in the team's home opener, claiming her third win of the season tossing 3.0 innings of shutout softball. Emily Schechter tossed the final 3.0 frames, allowing no hits to earn the save.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Berry's offense was kept silent for the first inning, but Berry plated four in the home half of the second off the bats of Samantha Crabtree and Abbey Gamble. 
  • Crabtree then drove home two more with a home run to left field in the third. 
  • Kayla Sangrey earned a one-out triple down the left field line in the fifth and would eventually score on a Meghan Hunt single. 
  • Katlin Seger then closed the game with an RBI single to third base in the sixth to secure the run-rule win.
