Softball Takes Doubleheader over Hendrix, Stays Perfect in SAA Play

ROME, Ga. – Finishing the day with 14 hits, the Berry College softball team bested Hendrix College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) doubleheader on Friday, extending their winning streak to eight and improving to 22-3 on the year.

The Vikings took game one 2-0 and rounded out the night beating the Warriors 10-3 in the nightcap. 

GAME ONE RECAP:

  • Brooke Whittemore opened up the Vikings' scoring in the first contest, doubling to center field to bring home Kayla Sangrey and give Berry their first 1-0 lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • Kylie Aiken then added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to ensure the 2-0 lead, rounding out scoring for both teams.
  • Aiken led the Vikings at the plate, hitting 3-for-3 at the plate in the contest, while adding an RBI
  • Bryanna Carlisle led Hendrix at the plate, finishing 2-for-3
  • Kassie Howard (13-1) earned the win in the circle for Berry, throwing all seven innings, while allowing just four hits and no runs, striking out eight Warriors.

GAME TWO RECAP:

  • The Warriors scored first in the nightcap, plating two runs in the top of the first inning 
  • Berry answered quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the same inning to regain a 3-2 lead.
  • The Vikings then added an additional five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, as well as two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, to ensure the 10-3 victory.
  • Bayleigh Masterson led Berry at the plate in the contest, finishing 4-for-4 at the plate, with three runs and two RBIs in the outing.
  • Makenzie Flynt (4-1) earned the win in the circle for Berry, throwing five complete innings, while allowing six hits and just one earned run, striking out four batters.
