Berry Softball Announces Newcomers for Upcoming Season

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — Berry College head softball coach, Cori Thiermann, has announced the seven newcomers to join the defending Southern Athletic Association (SAA) champions for the upcoming 2018 season.

"We are very excited for this incoming class," Thiermann said. "It is a group of great athletes that want to push our program to new heights. They have great experience in competitive high school and travel ball programs which will be vital to their success at Berry. We can't wait to see what's in store for team nine."

Callahan Baker

(INF, Maryville, Tenn., Maryville High School)

A 2016 All-County selection, Baker joins the Vikings after helping her team to a conference title and a state playoff appearance. 

The daughter of Michelle and Greg Baker, Callahan plans on majoring in Pre-Med at Berry.

Samantha Crabtree

(INF/OF, Marietta, Ga., Pope High School)

A four-year varsity player for Pope, Crabtree comes to Berry after a first-team All-County selection and Georgia Dugout Club All-Star team appearance in 2016. She was also an All-Region selection during the 2014-16 seasons. A team MVP award winner, Crabtree holds the single-season runs (40) and assists (72) record for Pope. She also helped her team to two final four appearances and a state title in 2014. 

The daughter of Lucy and Ian Crabtree, Samantha plans on majoring in Exercise Science at Berry. 

Shelby Daniel

(C/OF, Fayetteville, Ga., Starr's Mill High School)

A two-sport athlete also competing in track and field, Daniel joins the Vikings after earning the Regional Player of the Year honor in 2017 in addition to an All-State selection during her junior and senior seasons. A three-year captain, Daniel was also a two-time team Offensive Player of the Year for Starr's Mill.

The daughter of Jill and Scott Daniel, Shelby plans on majoring in Pre-Med. 

Meredith Holland

(P/1B, Acworth, Ga., Allatoona High School)

A four-time Scholar Athlete award winner, Holland was a two-year varsity starter for the Buccaneers and also tossed a perfect game against Osborne during her junior year. Posting a 1.36 ERA including two shutout victories in her senior year, Holland plans on majoring in Animal Science at Berry.

Meredith is the daughter of Denise and Jay Holland.

Bayleigh Masterson

(INF, Louisville, Ky., Louisville Male Traditional High School)

Leading her team to four straight state playoff appearances including a runner-up finish in 2015, Masterson will join the Vikings after an All-District and All-Area nod in 2016 in addition to a final All-Area selection during her senior year. Also competing in two All-Star games in her career, she and her senior teammates are the winningest class in the state with 125 wins in their four year career. For her career, she hit .389 with three home runs, 24 RBI and 18 runs scored. 

The daughter of Janet and Bruce Masterson, Bayleigh plans on majoring in Marketing. 

Madison Morgan

(C/UT, Thomasville, Ga., Thomasville High School)

A four-time All-Region selection for Thomasville High School, Morgan joins the Vikings after spending the past two years at Thomas University. She will, however, enter her first year of collegiate softball with the Vikings this year after a strong high school career. Morgan helped her high school squad to a Sweet 16 appearance during her senior year after hitting .293 with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. 

The daughter of Carrie and Scott Morgan, Madison plans on majoring in Pre-Med at Berry. 

Brooke Whittemore

(OF, Acworth, Ga., North Paulding High School)

A two-sport athlete also competing in tennis, Whittemore will join Berry after earning an All-Region nod and helping her team to its first state playoff appearance during her senior year. During her final season, she hit .337 with a .590 SLG% and four home runs. 

The daughter of Leah and Scott Whittemore, Brooke plans on majoring in Nursing.
