Melja Watkins began coaching hurdles for the Berry College Track & Field program at the start of the 2017 season.
Watkins previously coached hurdles & sprints at Darlington School in Rome, Ga. and Deltona High School in Deltona, Fla. During her time at Berry, she helped Viking hurdler, Rory Fleming, to All-SAA honors in both the 110H and the 400H during the 2017 season.
She competed in hurdles/sprints in the Division I MAC Conference for Bowling Green State University in Ohio from 2000-2004 and is a USATF Level 1 certified coach.
Melja earned her Bachelor of Science is Early Childhood Studies from BGSU and her Master’s Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, & Technology from Nova Southeastern University. Previously, she taught second grade at Darlington for four years, adjunct classes at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, and eight years of teaching in Deltona, Florida.
Melja and her husband, Kevan have two children and live in Rome.
