ATLANTA — Berry College's CJ Stone and Genesis Leggett have been selected as Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Stone, a senior from Conyers, Ga., earned men's track athlete of the week honors after finishing fourth in both the 100m and 200m dash at the Victor Ice Breaker Duals. He was the top NCAA Division III finisher. Currently, Stone leads the SAA, South/SE Region, and national rankings in both events. His time of 21.89 seconds in the 200 is a lifetime personal record. He also helped lead his 4x100 relay team to a second place finish and the top time in SAA. That mark ranks fourth nationally.
Leggett, a junior from Live Oak, Fla., claimed the SAA women's field athlete of the week accolades after winning the shot put and discus last weekend. She also finished second in the hammer throw. She is currently ranked first in the shot, fifth in the discus, and third in the hammer in the South/SE Region. Additionally, she leads the SAA in both events.
The Vikings compete at the Southern Invitational in Birmingham on Friday and Saturday.
