ROME, Ga. – With both the men and women's track and field teams earning strong finishes at the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships a year ago, the Vikings have their sights set high for the season ahead.
Berry has already had a record-breaking indoor season, with many student-athletes shattering personal and school records. Both teams are set to close the indoor season shortly before jumping into outdoor competition in a few short weeks.
Placing six student-athletes on the All-Conference team, the Berry College men's track team finished fourth overall at the 2017 SAA Championships. Mitchell Brice, Rory Fleming, George Saboura, Ethan Caldwell, and Will Knowlton each earned All-SAA accolades and will be returning to compete for the Vikings again this year. Earning a fourth place finish at each of the last two SAA Championships, the veteran Vikings will be hungry for a shot at the SAA title.
The women's team also placed seven student-athletes on the All-SAA teams following 2017 competition, headlined by Genesis Leggett's Women's Field Athlete of the Year honor. The Vikings finished third overall at the SAA Championships, their best finish in program history. Three athletes were also named to the USTFCCA All-Region team following the season: Danielle Patterson, Alexa Bilsky and Leggett. With both Leggett and Bilsky returning for the Vikings, Berry hopes to contend for the top conference spot this season as well. Berry's roster will also see the addition of several newcomers, adding depth to nearly every event.
Berry's first outdoor meet will be at home for the Victor Icebreaker Duals on March 3rd.
