ATLANTA — Berry College's Genesis Leggett, CJ Stone and Tucker Smith have earned Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Leggett, a sophomore from Live Oak, Fla., won the discus at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. She also finished second in both the shot put and hammer throws and finished fourth in the javelin. Overall, she led Berry to dual meet wins over Sewanee and Oglethorpe and ahead of mostly NCAA Division-II schools. Currently, her marks lead the SAA in the shot put and discus and is second in the hammer and fourth in the javelin. Leggett is also ranked first in the South/SE region in the discus, third in the shot put, and fourth in the hammer.
Stone, a junior from Conyers, Ga., posted times of 10.97 and 22.07 (both PR's) finishing sixth in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters, respectively. His times currently rank first in the SAA and South/SE region. He also ranks fourth and fifth nationally in the 100 and 200 meters.
Smith, a freshman from Leesburg, Ga., won the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.52m. His vault is the third-best all-time in Berry history. It also ranks first in both the SAA and South/SE region and is currently second, nationally.
The Vikings will head to the Shamrock Invitational on March 15-17 for their next outdoor meet.
