MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Both the Berry College men’s and women’s tennis teams fell in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Quaterfinal matches on Friday afternoon, rounding out the season.
The men’s team fell to Birmingham-Southern College 5-2, while the women’s team fell 5-2 to the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe.
Kathryn Barker and Sydney Stone defeated Shannon Cruz and Halley Sickling, 8-4, in the No. 2 Doubles spot for Berry, earning the sole doubles victory for the women’s team on the day. Barker then finished the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 Singles spot over Oglethorpe’s Hannah Dattilo, earning the final Vikings’ win of the day. The No. 1 and No. 2 Berry doubles teams of Chase Gooding and Matthew Blakely (9-8) and Ryan Miner and Rory Glatt (9-7), respectively, earned the sole men’s victories for the Vikings on the day.
With the loss, the women’s team finished the season 9-7 overall on the year. The men’s team rounds out the season 7-9 overall.
