Swim & Dive Closes Day Two at SAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Haley Brown and Michael Bemis both placed first in the 50 yard freestyle in a Thursday night session filled with top-three finishes for the Vikings at the SAA Swim & Dive Championships. 

The session started with Haley Brown, Josie Hadaway, Sarah Pierce and Brooke Boyd taking fourth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.64 On the men’s side, Laramie Sellers, Bo Dyar, Jackson Parker and Michael Bemis edged out a tied Centre College and Birmingham Southern to reach second place with a time of 1:25.06.

Berry then posted strong swims in the 500 freestyle, with Brooke Boyd and Dylan White both taking silver in the event. 

The Vikings had depth in the 200 individual medley, lead by Josie Hadaway who placed sixth for the women. 

Individual competition was capped by Haley Brown and Michael Bemis each taking first place in the 50 freestyle. Brown’s time of 23.86 broke her own school record. 

Berry wrapped up the night with the 400 medley relay. On the women’s side, Sydney Ragsdale, Lily Jenkins, Josie Hadaway and Haley Brown secured a solid third place finish. Dylan White, Laramie Sellers, Cyrus Nabavi and Michael Bemis then capitalized on a disqualification by Rhodes College for a third place finish. White’s relay lead off time of 50.40 in the 100 backstroke broke the SAA conference record. 

After the second day of competition, the women are in fourth place with 222 points while the men are in third with 235 points.

Competition will resume tomorrow morning.
