ATLANTA — Berry College's Dylan White and Haley Brown have been selected as the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week, the league announced yesterday.
White, a freshman out of Sandy Springs, Ga., tied for second as the highest point scorer of the two-day Viking Classic meet. White swam in a total of seven events; three individual and four relays. He started the meet with a second place finish in the 500 Freestyle in a time of 4:51.17, then came back later that evening to lead off the 400 Medley Relay in a 55.84, which resulted in a win.
White started Saturday by winning the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 26.16. He then won the 100 Backstroke in a time of 53.51. Finally, the Viking newcomer won the 200 Backstroke in a time of 1:58.79 and led off the 400 Freestyle Relay at the end of the session in a 48.96, a time that would have placed him second in the event.
Brown, a senior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., also tied for high point scorer of the meet. Brown swam in seven events during the three-session meet. She first anchored the 200 Freestyle Relay in a time of 23.86, which helped secure a second place finish. Brown later won the 50 Freestyle in a 24.69 and anchored the winning 400 Medley Relay in a time of 52.50.
On Saturday morning, the senior Viking won the 200 Freestyle in a 1:58.65, and swam the third leg of the 800 Freestyle Relay in a 2:00.51. Finally, Brown won her third and final individual event, the 100 Freestyle, in a 54.19.
Both the men's and women's swim teams are preparing for the SAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 14-17.
