ATLANTA -- The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced the 2013-14 Swimming & Diving All-Conference award winners. To be placed on the First Team, competing student-athletes must have placed first in an event at the SAA Championships. A second place finish at the SAA Championships placed student-athletes on the Second Team while a third place result landed them on the Third Team.
Berry College had a total of six all-conference honorees, including five first team selections and one second team pick.
"The entire team swam extremely well this past weekend, said Head Coach Paul Flinchbaugh. "As we moved through our taper, I saw positive indicators everywhere that the hard work had been put in and we were headed for great swims at the Conference Championships. As the meet progressed I found that to be an understatement as the time drops surpassed my expectations."
Rachel Sandoval was the lone BC woman to be honored. She earned a spot on the first. On the men's side, Cameron Grant, Graydon McCrite, Conor Monaghan and Johnathon Purdy earned first team distinction. Freshman Robbie Ellwanger earned SAA second team recognition.
"Aside from five first team All SAA Swimmers-- and one second team All SAA swimmer--we also had four individual NCAA national qualifying cuts and one relay NCAA national qualifying cut as well," Flinchbaugh said. "I'm also proud we had 100-percent time drops across the team--many below lifetime bests. I couldn't be more proud of the Vikings for all their performances against the tough opponents we see in the SAA."
