ROME, Ga. — The Berry College men’s lacrosse team is set to host the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, welcoming conference-foe Hendrix College at 1:00 p.m.
Berry holds the No. 3 seed in the tournament after a 4-2 record in league play this season, including a 15-4 victory over the Warriors on March 29 at Valhalla Stadium. Hendrix holds the No. 6 seed after a 1-5 conference mark.
The Vikings advanced to the tournament semifinals in each of the past three seasons, and look to compete for the league title for the first time since 2015.
The senior tandem of Justin Westbrook and Chris Berchock lead the Vikings on the offensive end. Westbrook played his way to three SAA Player of the Week honors this season, pushing his name into the Player of the Year discussion. He set Berry’s single-game assists record against Oglethorpe on April 9. On the year, he is top-five in the league in goals (37), assists (31) and leads the SAA with 68 points, also setting a single-season program record. Berchock has found the back of the cage 25 times this season, scoring five goals against Oglethorpe to become the SAA's All-Time leading goal scorer. The duo combined for six goals in the team’s last meeting with Hendrix.
Berry’s defense allows the third fewest goals in the league heading into the tournament, anchored by junior goalie Riley Brogdon. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native is third in the league in goals-against average and has recorded the second most minutes in cage of any goalie in the league. He saw 11 shots in the last meeting, recording seven saves.
