Cory Hall led Berry with a pair of goals, but Birmingham-Southern spoiled the Vikings' men's lacrosse season opener Saturday with an 11-5 victory over Berry at Ford Field.
Birmingham-Southern scored the game's first two goals, but Berry tied the score on back-to-back goals by Bryan Byers and Hall, the second of which came with 1:12 remaining in the first quarter.
But after Hall's first-quarter strike, the Vikings were held scoreless for the next 34 minutes, and saw what was a tie game turn into a seven-goal deficit.
Berry would finally add a goal when Mike Voso scored with 12:12 remaining in the game, the first of three straight Vikings goals. Hall followed with his second goal four minutes later, and Maxwell Smerka found the net with just over seven minutes remaining to play to pull Berry to within 9-5.
Birmingham-Southern would get a pair of goals in the final 4:13 to seal the victory.
Erik Klein scored a game high four goals for the Panthers, and Brennan Ott added three.
Berry goalie Jordan Boreman finished with 14 saves, one more than his BSC counterpart, Andrew Huffman.
The Vikings are scheduled to return to action Saturday, when they play at Millsaps.
