NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — Berry College's Preston DeSantis wrapped up competition at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, shooting a 13-over par 157 over two rounds that left him outside the two-round cut line.
He shot a six-over par 78 in round one and a seven-over par 79 in the second round. His two-round score put him in a tie at 102nd place. DeSantis was one of six individuals (not already qualifying with a team) that received an invitation to the national championship tournament.
A total of 216 participants are competing at the 2019 championships.
A freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., DeSantis earned the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Newcomer of the Year honor following a phenomenal freshman campaign. He jumped three spots on the final day of the SAA Championships to tie for third individually, helping the Vikings to the team's third runner-up finish in four years. DeSantis also posted an impressive eight under total at the Rhodes Spring Classic, helping the team to a record-setting 19 under victory. On the year, he led the team with a 73.46 scoring average.
