NORMAN, Okla. — Berry College's Preston DeSantis claimed Division III PING All-Region honors, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday. A total of 98 players across six regions - Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Great Lakes, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2019.
A freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., DeSantis earned the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Newcomer of the Year honor following a phenomenal freshman campaign. He jumped three spots on the final day of the SAA Championships to tie for third individually, helping the Vikings to the team's third runner-up finish in four years. DeSantis also posted an impressive eight under total at the Rhodes Spring Classic, helping the team to a record-setting 19 under victory. On the year, he led the team with a 73.46 scoring average. He ranks inside the top-40 in Division III according to Golfstat.
DeSantis is currently competing at the NCAA Division III Championships. The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round. Forty-two teams and six individuals not on one of those teams will be selected to participate in the championships. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
