Jake Weitkamp joined Berry for the 2023 season as a graduate assistant after serving five years as a defensive star for the Vikings.
Before kicking-off his coaching career, Weitkamp's field presence never went unseen as he was named team captain for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Being named Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 with 27 solo tackles and 52 total tackles it was no surprise that coach Kunczewski wanted to keep Jake around. A semifinalist for the NFF Campbell Trophy Award showcased his talents daily and the Southern Athletic Association named him a three time All-Conference player.
Off the field he made his mark as being named to the Academic All-District Team in 2022, was a member of the Leadership Council for four years and a recipient of the Inspiration Award and Viking fo the Year Award in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
