BERRY'S KRISTIN BRENNAN WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Berry College's Kristin Brennan won the individual national championship in the Novice Equitation on the Flat event at the 2012 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association national championships at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, N.C., Thursday.

Brennan, a sophomore from Ocala, Fla., was Berry's lone rider to compete Thursday, and with all eyes on her, Brennan energized her teammates with a victory in the event that featured 16 competitors.

Findlay's Christin Kausrud finished second and Virginia Intermont's Abigail Parke finished third.

Brennan qualifed for the national championship appearance with a second place finish in the event in Zones on March 31.

Brennan's national championship in the Hunter Seat event also helps give her Berry teammates extra confidence as they look to successfully defend their IHSA Western national championship of a year ago.

Full results for all national championship events are available on the IHSA web site, which also features a link to a free live video stream.
