Offense Leads Baseball to 11-1 Win Over LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Vikings strung together 16 hits, as the Berry College baseball team bested LaGrange College 11-1 on Tuesday night.

Berry jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in their first at-bat and plating at least one run in each of the next three innings. LaGrange crossed the plate for the Panthers' sole run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Vikings then tacked on three additional runs in the top of the seventh to ensure the 11-1 victory.

Zack Walch, Casey Whitaker and Joey Ruiz led Berry offensively in the outing, each finishing the night with three hits. Walch was 3-for-4 at the plate, adding two runs and two RBIs for Berry. Whitaker hit 3-for-5 for the Vikings, adding one RBI and two runs as well, and Ruiz rounded out the Berry offense 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

J. T. Eggert (2-0) earned the win on the mound for the Vikings, tossing five complete innings, while allowing just three hits and one run, striking out seven Panthers. Anthony Elias (0-1) took the loss for LaGrange, throwing just 1.1 innings, while allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

On the day, Berry committed no errors and finished the game with 16 hits, as the Vikings improved to 14-7 overall. LaGrange finished the night with just four hits and one error, falling to 14-12 on the season.

Berry will host Hendrix College in a doubleheader at home on Saturday, March 24. Game one of the Alzheimer’s Charity Day with begin at 1:00 p.m.
