LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Plating runs in five of the nine innings while combining for 12 hits, the Berry College baseball team held on to defeat the Scots of Covenant College 9-7 on Tuesday.

Jacob Delk opened Berry scoring in the top of the first inning, sending a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Zack Walch and give the Vikings their first 1-0 lead of the game. Berry then added four additional runs before the Scots saw the plate, following five singles and a fielder's choice ground out to move the lead to 5-0 by the end of the first inning. The Vikings then added three additional runs, plating one run in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings to expand their lead to 8-0, following an RBI single apiece by Devin Post, Dylan Beasley and Zach Huie.

The Scots then opened up scoring for Covenant in the bottom of the sixth inning. Donny Lewis reached on a fielder's choice to the shortstop, knocking in Alex Gonzalez to cut the lead to 8-1. Caleb Bloye, Joel Johnson and CJ Edmond then each added RBI singles to the outfield to move the score to 8-4 and round out the inning. Berry then plated their final run of the contest in the top of the seventh inning, as Jake Crandon singled to right field to bring home Beasley and expand the lead to 9-3.

Covenant looked to string together a comeback, adding two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, as well as one final run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 9-7, but Berry's early momentum was enough to ensure the Vikings' seventh victory of the season.
