ROME, Ga. -- Collin McHugh, who made his major league debut with the New York Mets in August, returned to Berry College on Jan. 22.

"It's been too long since I've been back to Berry," McHugh said. "It brings back a lot of great memories to be back on campus."

McHugh, who pitched at Berry College from 2006-08, made four starts for the Mets at the end of last season.

"Obviously it was a dream come true to play in the majors," said McHugh.

McHugh was drafted out of Berry by the Mets in the 18th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. McHugh was 13-9 with five saves for the Vikings during his collegiate career. He joined the Mets organization following his junior year at Berry.

McHugh and his wife live in Atlanta in the offseason. He has been training for the 2013 season.

"As for this year, I'm just looking to play well in Spring training and let the chips fall where they may," McHugh said.

McHugh has become a social media sensation. He has a blog, "A Day Older, A Day Wiser," and a clever Twitter account. His handle @Collin_McHugh now has more than 5,000 followers.

"I have a lot of fun with it," said McHugh. "It's a challenge to try to be funny in 140 characters or less."
