HILTON HEAD, S.C. - On the heels of yesterday's win, the Berry College Men's Tennis Team was eager to continue their streak against Georgetown College but were unable to do so as they fell 4-3.
Doubles was closely contested all the way to the end, with first doubles Jake Chapman / Aiden Benoualid and second doubles Xavier Deckard / Jace Goode losing narrowly in tiebreaks. However, Leo Nedkov / Anderson Lambert at third doubles were able to break away in the final games, winning 6-4 with a single break of serve.
With only 4 courts to play on, matches were put on in succession as courts opened up.
Jake Chapman at first singles led the charge with his aggressive all-court game. His opponent was forced to constantly adjust but was unable to find the answers with Jake winning decisively 6-3, 6-2. However, following in the same manner as doubles, the remaining singles matches were closely contested, to the point were Berry College was trailing 2-3 in match count.
Aiden Benoualid at fifth singles showcased tremendous patience against a defensive baseliner, ultimately taking the match in a deciding 10-point tiebreak. All eyes were now on the deciding match, as
Lucas Duckstein at sixth singles managed to push his match into a 10-point tiebreak. Despite running every ball down and maintaining strong service points, Lucas narrowly lost, with Georgetown College defeating Berry College 3-4 in match count.
The men still played great tennis on back-to-back days, and will look to maintain their form as they continue to play this Thursday against Shenandoah University.
