Vikings Race Past Catholic

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Berry College men's tennis team kicked off their spring break at Hilton Head, SC, by facing Catholic University of America from Washington, D.C. Due a sudden venue change, the men were faced with the predicament of playing on clay for the first time this season.

Doubles began slowly as Berry struggled to find their footing and to execute consistent plays. However, after third doubles Eli O'Dell / Xavier Deckard won their match, the momentum began to noticeably shift. Second doubles trailed 1-4 and first doubles faced match points down 1-5, but both doubles teams rallied through pure grit to secure a doubles sweep for Berry College.

On the heels of their doubles success, the men started strong with Jake Chapman leading the charge with few, if any, mistakes in route to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Leo Nedkov at second and Anderson Lambert at third split sets against their opponents, but brought the focus and energy necessary to each win 10-3 in their respective 10-point tiebreaks.

The remaining men followed suit, sweeping Catholic University 6-0 with consistent ball striking despite the unique playing conditions. Please stay tuned as the men continue their march during spring!
