BRIDGEWATER, Va. - A warm day in Bridgewater, Virginia provided the scene for a competitive bout for the Berry Vikings against the Bridgewater College Eagles. After a convincing victory at home against the Piedmont Lions, the Vikings were determined to carry their momentum on the road in Virginia, but unfortunately fell short to the Eagles losing 8-11. Despite their resilient efforts to end this game in their favor, it ended up not being quite enough for the Vikings to pull through.
The 1st period did start hot for the Vikings, as Junior,
Owen Morini provided the Vikings with the early advantage in the match. This was followed by Junior,
William Lee, doubling the lead for the Vikings which marked his 5th goal of the season. With the Eagles turning one goal back in response,
Owen Morini slotted his 2nd goal of the match which put the Vikings back with a 2 goal lead over the Eagles, providing them with a little bit of real estate. To close out the 1st period, the Eagles once again shortened the goal deficit, making it 3-2 to close out the period in favor of the Vikings.
The 2nd period was action packed with a plentiful amount of goals, starting off with Senior, Caleb Johnson, doubling the Vikings' lead which would mark his 2nd goal of the season. With an Eagles goal in between,
Finn McClendon scored his 5th goal of the season, once again giving the Vikings a 2 goal lead, which would be short lived as the 1st half ended 5-7 in favor of the Eagles.
The 3rd period started with a streak of 2 goals in favor of the Eagles, which meant this game was starting to shift and the Vikings needed to switch mentality and reel their selves back in this game, which happened from
Owen Morini's hat trick sealing goal, marking his 12th goal of the season. This was followed by a goal also assisted from
Owen Morini, scored by Senior,
Andrew Duffy, which marked his 4th goal of the season. The Vikings started to bring their selves back within the game, being only behind by 2 goals. This was put to a stop however, with the Eagles scoring their 10th goal of the game to close out the 3rd period of the game.
The 4th and final period of the game was a bit of a stalemate, with both teams having a goal a piece, with a goal by Senior,
Michael Beirne, marking his 6th goal of the season along with the final goal of the match which ended 8-11 in favor of the Bridgewater Eagles.
