MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings brought out the brooms for the second time in three days with outfielder Tanaka Mukono and pitcher Cam Welsh earning SAA Player and Pitcher of the Week recognition.
Sophomore Tanaka Mukono was nearly automatic in the batter's box with a total of 7 RBI on 8 hits in 12 at-bats over the course of their three-game series against Southwestern. The Flowery Branch, Georgia, native orchestrated a grand slam that blew game two of the series open, which ended in a resounding 21-5 win. Tanaka's season-high five hits in game two marks the best Berry hitting performance since February 15th of last season.
Junior pitcher Cam Welsh was phenomenal in game one of the Southwestern series, pitching a complete game shutout and sending the Pirates back to their ship on six occasions with strikes. Following the performance, the Spring Garden, Alabama native boasts an ERA of 2.45. Welsh's remarkable effort marks the first complete game shutout for the Vikings since May of 2023 when Patrick O'Rourke did so against Centre.
Catch Tanaka and Cam along with the rest of the Vikings in action on April 2nd as they go toe-to-toe with Trinity University for the opener of their three-game series. First pitch is set for 6 PM at William R. Bowdoin.
