MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - With Berry softball defeating the Millsaps Majors in their last 2 outings, the Vikings were able to complete the 3 game sweep in a 5-2 victory in their home territory in at Kay Williams Field on Sunday afternoon.
Key performances included 2 RBI on 2 hits from
Elly Bennett.
Lauren Cothern and
Kennedy Moody each drove home a run as well. Splitting the action in the circle were
JJ Sweat and
Ava Fouts, who both dominated their shifts, giving up just one earned run apiece.
The bottom of the first proved to be a crucial part of contributing to the winning efforts of the Vikings, with senior, Elly Bennet, getting in RBI, bringing junior,
Ava Fouts, home to score. This was followed by an RBI single coming from sophomore,
Kennedy Moody, to bring Bennett home, doubling the lead for the Vikings. This was followed by Moody getting caught stealing and getting out at second, which gave senior,
Lauren Cothern an opportunity to score to close out the inning with the Vikings have a 3 run lead.
With Millsaps scoring a run at the top of the fourth, the Vikings were able to respond by sealing the deal and ensuring their victory with Elly Bennet getting another RBI off of a single, bringing junior,
Katelyn Boman home. Cothern followed this up by singling up the middle for an RBI to bring Fouts home once again to close out the inning.
With the Majors only making up one more run at the top of the 6th, it did not prove to be enough for them to overcome the Vikings, leading them to their 4th victory in a row.
The Vikings will continue their homestand by facing the Trinity University Tigers on Friday, April 3 at 1 PM and 3 PM.
