Track and Field Excels at Emory For Second Weekend in a Row

ATLANTA, Ga. - For the second weekend in a row, the Vikings took to the track at Emory University for the Thrills in the Hills Invitational. The meet featured D3 teams from across the nation including Williams, Colby, Calvin, Southern Maine, Wabash, Wittenberg, and The College of New Jersey. Division 1 teams from Clemson, UT-Chattanooga, and Mercer also competed.

Men's Friday Results:
Ryan Barch finished 10th overall  in the Decathlon. It was his first collegiate Decathlon and his score of 5107pts places him #7 on Berry's All-Time top 10 list. He is currently ranked #1 in the South Region early in the season

Clay Robinson won the Men's Javelin with a mark of 51.30 meters.

Dawson Livingston placed 3rd overall in the Hammer Throw and was the top collegian in the event. His throw of 54.12m was a new PR and broke his own Berry School Record. It is the top throw in the SAA so far and #12 in the Nation for D3.

The 4x400m Relay team of Corbin Dutcher, Braylon Kirkpatrick, Cameron Hewling, and Berkey Powell placed 6th overall with a time of 3:18.44. The time is the fastest run by a Berry foursome since 1975 when the current record of 3:14.90 (4x440yard) was run. The time leads the SAA and is ranked #10 in the Nation so far this season.

Freshman Quincy Anderson placed 8th in the 3000m Steeplechase with a new PR of 10:07.78.
 
Women's Friday Results:
Macy Murdock and Ayla Husby placed 6th and 8th overall in the Heptathlon with scores of 4238 pts and 3971 pts respectively. Murdock's score while not a lifetime best is ranked #2 in the South Region and #6 in the Nation while Husby's is #3 in the South and #12 in the Nation so far. Husby's first attempt at the event places her #3 All-Time at Berry.

Malysha Winston and Avery Jones placed 6th and 7th respectively in the Hammer Throw with throws of 45.34 meters and 44.21 meters. Freshman Maddie Denney placed 10th overall with a new lifetime PR of 39.14m.
 
Men's Saturday Results:
Freshman Bryce Toomer won the Men's Discus with a new lifetime PR of 46.69m. The throw places him #2 All-Time at Berry and is ranked #2 in the SAA and #17 in the Nation.

Dawson Livingston placed 6th in the Shot Put with a season's best 14.10m throw.

Owen Gagnon finished runner-up in the 10,000m with a new lifetime PR of 33:16.17 with teammates Ciran Greer (34:39.50), Keenan Smith (35:02.72), and Thomas Brandon (35:56.60) finishing behind in 5th, 6th, and 8th place.

Troy Blackwood finished 7th in the 1,500m with a 4:03.51.

Christian Hayes finished runner up in the 3,000m with a 9:37.04.

Ethan Smith (1:55.95), Caleb Pritchett (1:56.08), Tavian Anderson (1:56.98), and T. Harris (1:57.69), all ran season best times in the 800m and all are ranked in top 8 of the SAA.
 
Women's Saturday Results:
Onoyeme Egure won her second Shot Put competition of the season, this time with a throw of 13.36m. Egure's throw from March 7th is still currently ranked #3 in the Nation after the third week for the season. Teammate Avery Jones finished 8th in the competition with a throw of 11.41m.

In the Pole Vault, Laney Ray and Ella Pine placed 7th and 8th, both with a jump of 3.20m.

Freshman Reese Becker finished 9th overall in the 100M Hurdles with collegiate best time of 15.27 which is the second fastest time run in the SAA so far this year behind teammate Macy Murdock who ran 15.16 during the Heptathlon event on Thursday. Beckner's time places her #3 All-Time at Berry in the event.

Freshman Maddie Denney placed 9th in the Discus with a collegiate PR of 35.28m.

Ella Williams won the 10,000m in a solo effort with a time of 39.49.90 which is ranked #2 in the SAA.

Freshman Laney Ray (1:00.76) and Darby Merritt's (1:01.30) times from the 400m now rank them #2 and #4 in the SAA so far this season and both earned them spots on Berry's All-Time list in the event.
 
Most of the Vikings will take next weekend off with a few competing back at Emory on Saturday 4/4 before returning to action on April 9-11th at home for the Berry Field Day Invitational to celebrate Senior Day and the last regular season meet of the year before hosting the SAA Outdoor Championships on April 24-25th.
