NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Vikings faced a tough matchup against Christopher Newport, where they got outplayed by a final score of 23-2.
Christopher Newport controlled the game from start to finish, not allowing the Vikings to get going offensively which turned out to be the story of the game.
After falling behind 6-0,
Katherine Herrero capitalized on a goal with 6 minutes left in the first quarter off a pass from reigning SAA Offensive Athlete of the Week
Lillie Swanson. Following this, CNU scored five more unanswered goals to take a healthy 11-1 advantage into the second quarter.
The second quarter was not kind to the Vikings, as the offensive pressure from CNU reaped five more goals to give them a 16-1 lead at the break.
Coming out of halftime,
Katie Claire Smith answered the bell off an assist from
Dani Taraska to bring the Vikings within 15. The home team was too much though, as they closed the game out on a 6-0 run, taking the win 23-2.
The Vikings are in action tomorrow at 11 AM EST on the road against Virginia Wesleyan.
