Ariel Ellis secures first place at the Berry Equal Distance Meet on Saturday Morning
MOUNT BERRY, Ga.-- On Saturday morning at the Clara Bowl, the Berry women's cross country team lined up for the second annual Berry Equal Distance Meet. With Ariel Ellis crossing first in a dominant performance, the Vikings secured a convincing win over their Georgia opponents.
Ellis, a senior from Georgia, dominated the race from start to finish, clocking a winning time of 31:32. Her effort ignited a streak of Viking finishes at the front, with Berry runners sweeping the first four places. The Vikings cruised to victory with a team score of 16, well ahead of Clark Atlanta's 79, while the remaining schools could not register team totals.
Freshman Ella Williams stood on second place at the finishing podium on Saturday morning. In her first home meet of her collegiate career, Williams clocked a time of 32:10 in the eight kilometer dash. On Williams' heels was veteran Olivia Lambert. The junior exercise science major demonstrated a mechanically elite performance, accumulating a time of 33:40.
Crossing in 35:45, Leine Burke added to the Vikings' tally with a fourth-place finish. In between Burke and Abby Reams, the final scorer for the Vikings was Haylee Stephens, a recent Berry soccer graduate who entered the meet to not only challenge herself, but to challenge her former classmates and peers. In the first 8K of her postgraduate career, Stephens earned a time of 36:20.Â
Reams, a freshman, was the final scoring runner for the Vikings. Reams finished with a time of 36:23.
The Vikings will be idle for two weeks before traveling to Spartenburg, SC for the DIII Pre-Nationals USC Upstate Meet. The official start time will be announced in the coming weeks.Â
