LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Tenn. - Men's soccer came out with a dominant 4-1 victory over the Covenant Scots. Using their well thought out passes and chemistry, they were able to create success down the wing, creating solid chances and leaving the Scots no chance once it was all said and done.
While the opening 15 minutes seemed seemed uneventful, the Covenant midfielder Johnathan Welsh fired an unexpected frightening shot towards
Cooper Cherry, hitting the crossbar and falling into the feet of the Scots striker Jackson Bostrom to open up the scoring against the Vikings, as Berry faced an 0-1 deficit.
While it would seem the Scots were carrying a large amount of momentum, given they had just scored a goal, and with an alive atmosphere with a large number of fans,
Alex Guzman instantly shut that down with an equalizer that was assisted by
Parker Pollay. With a technical and powerful sequence of moves, Guzman sent a message to the Scots that the Berry Vikings were not ones to give up after being down early.'
And just when the crowd thought the Vikings' crusade was over, Pollay found himself through on goal using his impressive pace when a dangerous foul put in by Fox Landgren would stop Pollay from getting a chance to convert. Resulting in an instant red card, and the Scots now were only playing with 10 men on the field.
Just within 5 minutes of his first, Guzman with another strike of the ball, hits the back of the net giving the Vikings the lead. The impact and determination from Alex permeated throughout the Viking roster.
The Vikings came up with good hard fought chances with their chemistry and understanding of the flow of the game, and it was only a matter of time until
Daniel Osho would receive a well placed pass through the line of defense by Tim Ratokhian and would intelligently place the ball out of the goalkeeper's reach making it 3-1 for the vikings.
Throughout the second half, with a well conducted defense led by
Andy Guzman, the Scots were beginning to grow desperate for success. Their desperation would end up punishing them as
Tyler Whitaker had a cracking strike on Scots goalkeeper J.T. Tolson, while saving the shot, ricocheting off his hands, the ball was able to find the feet of Ratokhian making it an easy 4-1.
A very much needed away victory for the Berry Vikings sets them up for their next home game on Sunday against LaGrange. Kickoff is set for 1 PM ET.
