MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry Softball team earned their 20
th win of the 2025 season with a game two win of 7-5 after falling in game one 8-3 to the Piedmont Lions.
Game One:
With a three run homerun by
Lauren Cothern in the bottom of the first inning and
Hannah Gore in the circle, things were going right for the Vikings.
However, that would be the only action Berry saw across the plate in a white uniform the next six innings. Piedmont started slow taking Gore's seven strikeouts. Somehow they found some momentum as they were already on a 12-game win streak they had been in this position before against top ranked teams.
The Lions answered with their own homerun to score two runs in the top of the third and cut the lead to one. The main action for Piedmont started in the fifth with two runs on three hits and a crucial error at first base for the Vikings.
Now with Piedmont at the helm (4-3), the Vikings needed to make some moves. The bottom of both the fifth and the sixth were unsuccessful and Piedmont took advantage with a four-run inning in the top of the seventh to push the lead even further and make the game seem unreachable.
Berry tried to make a comeback but stranded two in the process without scoring for Piedmont to take game one.
Game Two:
Now it was time for Berry to snap the winning streak of the Lions and regain their home field. Piedmont started things out first this time, still on a high from game one.
Two runs on two hits would put the Lions up but not for long with the Vikings repeating the two runs on two hits method to tie it up in the bottom of the first.
Things were steady across the second and third with
Ava Fouts in the circle for Berry, she was relieved in the seventh by
Megan Rapillo who secured the final three outs.
Berry forced a pitching change for Piedmont with five runs off five hits in the fifth. At the plate for Berry was
Latifa Madesko going 2-2 on the day and remarkable 3 RBIs from Fouts who had a double along with
Paige Bennett.
Piedmont's late stretch for three runs in the top of the seventh was not sufficient as Rapillo struck out the final Lion for the day.
With pending weather conditions in Lexington, Kentucky this weekend, the Vikings may postpone the doubleheader with Transylvania. Stay tuned at
