Softball Splits on Day Two of Action in Memphis

MEMPHIS - The Berry Softball team dropped one contest in an nontraditional doubleheader this afternoon with Rhodes but came back to defeat the Lynx in game two for a non-conference game.

Game One Berry 3 - Rhodes 5:
Elly Bennett opened up scoring in game one with an RBI single to score Paige Bennett who had reached on walk and advanced on a stolen base. Rhodes answered in the bottom of the inning to take the 2-1 lead off two hits.

The Vikings rallied back in the top of the second inning with two hits, scoring two runs and Berry capitalizing on the Lynx's two opening errors to take the game back at 3-2. Both teams defenses tightened up after that, with Hannah Gore in the circle for Berry until the fifth inning as Megan Rapillo stepped in with Rhodes tying the game at three runs.

Rhodes would find one more run in the fifth and another in the sixth as they held the Vikings scoreless in the final innings to hand Berry their first SAA loss of the season.

Game Two Berry 8 - Rhodes 3:
Berry rallied back in game two to capture a win over the Lynx with Casey Holloway in the circle throwing six innings with seven strikeouts.

Lauren Cothern's double and homerun highlighted the offensive end for the Vikings who were able to find their footing at the plate. It all began in the top of the first inning with three runs on three hits from El. Bennett, Cothern, and Erica Bennett.

Rhodes scored one in the bottom of the first but Cothern notched her two run homerun in the top of the third to regain the spacious separation at 5-1.

Berry found more success in the fifth with three more hits this time from Paige Bennett, El. Bennett and a three-run double from Er. Bennett to secure the final three runs as the Vikings went up 8-1.

In the bottom of the seventh Rhodes tried to spark a comeback on their home field, but the Vikings closed it out going 3-1 in the series in Memphis.

The Vikings will return to action on Friday in Montgomery, Alabama, to take on Huntingdon College.
