Three Vikings Qualify for 2025 NCAA D3 Indoor Track & Field Championships

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Three Vikings have been selected to represent Berry at the 2025 NCAA D3 Indoor Track & Field Championships as announced by the NCAA.

Seniors Jahari Jones and Alden McDonald, along with Sophomore Onoyeme Egure will compete at the March 14-15th meet hosted by Nazareth University in Rochester, New York.

In order to qualify, individuals must finish the indoor season ranked in the top 20 in the Nation in their respective event.  This is the first time that Berry will be represented by more than two individuals at the Indoor Championships and Egure is the first female to qualify for the Indoor meet since Genesis Leggett did so in the Weight Throw in 2020.

"Qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships is a huge accomplishment and is getting progressively harder to do each year, especially when you consider the amount of people who compete in D3.

Both Jahari and Alden benefit from having this type of Championship experience to draw on and both have been on the podium before.  'O' (Onoyeme) has improved by over 3 feet in the Shot this season and I'm excited for her to earn this as an underclassman.

All three are in a position to represent Berry on the podium next weekend and all are great representatives of Berry and our program." say head coach Luke Syverson on the great accomplishments.

Senior Jahari Jones is no stranger to the NCAA Championships and will be representing Berry at the Championships for the fourth time in his career.  The All-American in the 400m (2023 Outdoor) and 200m (2024 Outdoor) will compete in the 200m this time after finishing the regular season with the 12th fastest time (21.79) in the nation in the event.  Jones, a graduate of Columbus High School, is coming off winning the 60m, 200m, and 400m at the SAA Indoor Championships and was named the Male Athlete of the Meet last week.

Senior Alden McDonald (Greenbrier High School, GA) will also be competing in his fourth NCAA Championship and his third Indoor Championships.  The 2024 NCAA Indoor All-American qualified after vaulting a PR and school record jump of 5.00m at the Centre Invite back in January.  He comes into this year's Championship as the #10 ranked Pole Vaulter in the Nation and looks to improve on his 8th place finish from last year.

Sophomore Onoyeme Egure will be competing in her first NCAA Championships after throwing an SAA Championship winning throw of 13.84m in the Shot Put.  Egure improved on her own Berry Indoor School Record from 2024 with the throw that also was an SAA Championship record.  The Fayette County High School alum comes into the Championship ranked #12 in the Nation in the event.
